Korea Plain Abalone Porridge. Should you spend KRW15,000 for this dish when you are in Korea? To be honest, I tried this porridge in the same restaurant as I had my Ginseng Chicken Soup (Samgyetang); read about my experience here. Well, as I mentioned earlier, there is a no sharing policy in Korea’s restaurant so you will need to order main course according to the number of guest. Basically 1 main dish for 1 person. There are 6 people among my family so we had to order 6 dishes all together.
And since I’m already seated in this restaurant and already ordered Ginseng Chicken Soup, I might as well make the most of it by trying other dishes that they serve (dishes that might be difficult to find locally). I saw the menu and noted that there is a Abalone Porridge dish that caught my interest. For info, I am a fan of porridge (i love Hong Kong porridge, read my experience here) so I was thinking maybe give this Korea’s porridge a try. What more can you get when it comes to Abalone porridge, it must be good, right?
Well, to be honest as my taste buds tells me, it is not as good as it looks. The price is considered high at KRW15,000 for a bowl of Abalone porridge that have only a few little piece of Abalone sprinkler on top of a plain porridge base with some sesame seeds and seaweeds. It just doesn’t hit me to be a reasonable priced dish. I am not a picky eater but this abalone porridge just doesn’t cut it at all, plain tasteless.
Not good:-
Price: KRW 15,000.
Portion: Good for single person.
Cons: Price on the high side (pricey). Tasteless. Abalone is so dry that it just seem like it stuck in your throat. Usually, I am a simple eater when it comes to food but this dish just doesn’t satisfy my taste.
Can you see the tiny pieces of dried abalone on top of the porridge?
I’m really not satisfied with this abalone porridge. OMG! Look at the Abalone!
My other experience in this restaurant:-
- Ginseng Chicken Soup, read here (Must try in Korea).
